Top Ten Books to Read in a Day

Hosted by the Broke and the Bookish

This week on the Broke and the Bookish’s weekly meme it’s a Rewind, meaning we get to pick whatever topic we missed in the past and liked the most to blog about.  I thought it would be fun to do Top Ten Books to Read in a Day because sometimes you just don’t have the time to get into a book that’s going to take time to think and ponder heavily about. So this is my list of ultra fast books to read:

Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1)Cinder and then Scarletby Marissa Meyer

These are my new favorites!! I am in love with every single character (but I would marry Wolf if given the opportunity).  I read these books way too fast (one day as you can obviously tell by the post’s title). They are such fun re-imaginings of…

Top Ten Zombie Films

Horrific Healing

After reading through a like list at Horror Lovers I decided that now is as good of a time as any to come up with my own top ten zombie films list.  I made a conscious effort to only include movies where zombies played a significant part in both the story and the overall atmosphere of the film because there are, after all, many horror flicks with zombie appearances that may not necessarily be zombie movies themselves.  Make sense?  I hope so.  Anyway, enjoy the list and, as always, your feedback is more than welcome!  The order is alphabetical.

The Beyond

The late and great Lucio Fulci has four undisputed zombie masterpieces under his belt and The Beyond is one of them.  It is atmospheric, artful and moves along at quite an impressive pace, each scene building upon the previous to create a crescendo-like build-up throughout the movie.  The dream-like…

Art Street is Amazon, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram all rolled into one and packaged exclusively for aspiring artists. The independent social network allows artists or collaborators to set up a profile and blog to promote and sell their work directly to viewers, or connect with a nearby gallery that is offering space for shows. There aren’t many artists signed up, but that means each one gets good support on Twitter…

Whether or not you’ve ever seen an Arts Council funded project or had a grant to work on their behalf, it’s always useful to know what ACE is working on. Their tweets are multi-discipline as they fund theatre, dance and music, as well as art, but they often highlight funding opportunities and link to useful tips…

Top 10 Road Trip Tips

westcoastprairiegirl

After having recently been in a car with three other people for 48 hours on a Road Trip from Vancouver to Los Angeles and back in just four days (that’s 4100km/2547miles!), I learned a few things along the way:

1.  Travel in a Large Vehicle – our options were limited: a Mini Cooper, 2 trucks or a Ford Focus.  Our next 4000km road trip, we’re going to rent a comfortable vehicle.

2.  Never Be Overconfident with your Inner GPS – we only had one highway to travel from Vancouver to Los Angeles and back..the Interstate 5.  Yet, we reluctantly had to turn on our phone data to have Google Maps help us find our way back to I5 when we somehow went astray.

3.  Games are Not Just for Kids – car games help make the time go by faster.  Riddle games are the best: “A guy…

Here goes nothing !

There are a few maiden voyages that stick out in modern history; Apollo 8 and man’s first trip to the moon, the Titanic , the Columbia space shuttle and so on. Needless to say, embarking on journey’s into virgin territory entails an enormous amount of risk and usually an even greater opportunity for reward. And so I begin my maiden voyage into the treacherous waters of blogging. As if there is one person in the known universe interested in my exploits, I will relentlessly pursue that which has been previously unknown, or at the very least unknown to me. Kind of like Europeans discovering an America that already existed albeit sans smallpox.

As you think about the above mentioned journeys, why is it that the only one made into a movie ended in tragedy ? I will leave the social commentary to those more astute in the phenomenon of Hollywood natural selection. However if you like booze, good eats, nice watches, architecture and design, sports and a little humor to boot, you will find a home here. Let’s just hope that they don’t make a movie about this blog, but if they do, it’s Chris Nolan all the way. Cheers!
